Changes can be scary, and feel like they are uprooting familiarity and introducing uncertainty into your life.⠀

However, change is also a requisite for growth, and your response and attitude towards changes in your life will determine the impact those changes have.⠀

Practice embracing changes and viewing them as opportunities to find new ways to live and achieve. ✨🌹

Effective communication is without a doubt the most important aspect of customer service.⠀

How you communicate with customers will define your relationship with them, and while good communication will lead to a positive relationship, poor communication will create shaky foundations and negative outcomes. ⠀

So what do we mean by ‘effective communication’?⠀
Effective communication is communication which is clear, concise and empathetic. It is important to avoid confusion in your communication, and to approach every scenario with the attitude that you are on the same team as your customer or workmates, and that you are all working towards the same goal. ⠀
⠀
To help foster effective communication practices, here are some helpful questions you can ask yourself before communicating with a customer. These apply whether you will be talking to them face-to-face, texting them or emailing them.⠀

🌟 What problem am I trying to solve for my customer? ⠀
⠀
🌟 If I were my customer, what outcome would I want my service provider/employee/contractor to create?⠀
⠀
🌟 If I were my customer, how would I like to be communicated with?⠀
⠀
🌟 Is there anything else I can help the customer with other than what has been specifically asked of me? ⠀
⠀
🌟 How can I use my expertise to make my customer’s life easier?⠀
⠀
🌟 Is it possible for my solution or delivery to completely solve my customer’s problem? If not, how will I let them know ahead of time so that they are not surprised with the outcome?⠀

Some of these questions involve an important aspect of effective communication: empathy. Empathetic communication occurs when you take the time to understand someone’s perspective on a situation and view things through their eyes. ⠀
⠀
While practicing empathetic communication requires effort and thoughtfulness, I personally have found that it is a vital part of helping clients feel acknowledged and thereby creating long standing relationships which make doing business with them all the more worthwhile.⠀

A little effort when it comes to understanding and catering for your customer’s viewpoint goes a long way in making them appreciate your business. 💬✨

Let’s think about your customer. If you are not directly interacting with customers or consumers, is customer service still important?⠀
⠀
In fact, whether you have direct face-to-face contact with customers or work mainly with your team leader, supervisor or manager, customer service is always an essential aspect of working life which should be actively focused on and improved.⠀
⠀
So, who is your customer?⠀
⠀
There are a variety of people who it is useful to consider to be your customer:⠀
Your direct customers – consumers or customers of your business who you have direct contact with either face-to-face or over the phone or email.⠀
⠀
Your team leader/supervisor – the person who holds you accountable and checks on your output.⠀
⠀
Your manager/CEO/Advisory Board – this is the person who relies on you to do your job well so that the organisation is able to thrive.⠀
⠀
Your colleague – the person with whom you collaborate to ensure you reach your organisation’s goals.⠀
⠀
Suppliers – those who provide a service to you or your organisation which enables you to perform your duties without disruption.⠀
⠀
By recognising these groups of people as ‘customers’, you can use your everyday interaction at work as an opportunity to improve your customer service skills and provide greater value to your business or workplace.⠀
⠀
Planning, evaluating and implementing outstanding customer service practices will help create lasting relationships within your organisation as well as creating a positive working environment that is highly likely to help your business succeed.⠀

Opportunities, even if they are welcome ones, are often intimidating. Sometimes we don’t feel ready to take them on, and it seems safer to simply stay where we are: wading in the shallows instead of diving into the deep end.⠀

However, in order to reach our full potential we need to leave our comfort zone, and understand that there is not always a ‘perfect’ time to start something new. Sometimes we just need to take a deep breath, steel ourselves and then jump headfirst into a new opportunity, scary or not. ✨

As we head into the Christmas season, it is a fitting time to consider and help those less fortunate than ourselves. There are a wide variety of worthy causes and organisations you can support, whether it be by donating time, money or much-needed goods.⠀

A few initiatives close to my heart include:⠀

@hamlinfistula - an incredible organisation which helps treat and prevent childbirth injuries in Ethiopia, and has restored the health and dignity of over 60,000 women.⠀
⠀
@actforkids - an Australian charity which has improved the lives of thousands of children by providing free therapy and support services to help prevent child abuse and neglect.⠀

Self-confidence and mental fortitude are the most important attributes to have not only in the business world but in every aspect of your life. ⠀

Often we are tempted to put off taking that first step out of a fear of failure or embarrassment down the line, but the pain of trying and making a mistake pales in comparison to the regret of never trying at all. ⠀

I am a strong believer in the importance of round-table discussions, as a format for people to share their ideas, life experiences and beliefs with others.

Unlike a lecture or speech, a round-table discussion creates an environment where conversation flows naturally and everyone feels free to provide differing opinions and uniquely-informed viewpoints of a scenario or problem.

Being a leader doesn't mean you always need to have the answers, or that you know better than everybody else. Instead, an effective leader is one who listens, and who is able to evaluate a variety of viewpoints before reaching a decision.💡
